Zero Waste Scotland are hosting a series of workshops to engage a range of sectors and raise awareness of low carbon heat. The events are free to attend, are being held in various locations across Scotland between January and March 2019, and are targeting three key sectors:

  • Housing associations
  • Planners
  • Home builders (cancelled)

Low carbon heat for housing associations

A free workshop to help housing associations understand the coming changes in policy and standards around low carbon heat and how these might affect practice in design, procurement, business planning and resident engagement. At the workshop, you will have the chance to hear about:

  • Developments towards emerging policy such as Energy Efficiency Scotland
  • How low carbon heat links to energy efficiency standards
  • Delivery of low carbon heat, commercial models and fuel poverty initiatives from Local Energy Scotland, Scottish Futures Trust and Changeworks

Planning for Low Carbon Heat

A free workshop to help planners understand more about the changing policy landscape and how these changes might be addressed in practice. The session is free to attend for all planning professionals, whether in the public or private sector. At the workshop, you will have the chance to hear about:

  • Developments towards the Planning (Scotland) Bill, the further roll out of LHEES and the introduction of district heating regulations
  • Feasibilities and the energy statement
  • Insights and experiences of planning for low carbon heat from case study speakers

Low carbon heat: contracts and customers

This session is designed to help home builders learn more about the types of low carbon heating systems which could become commonplace in new homes in Scotland. In particular, we’ll be looking at types of contracts and agreements with heat supply operators: what is the role of home builders? How are customers’ interests protected? What does best practice look like in this vital home service sector?

As more new homes are built with low carbon heating systems – from heat pumps to district heating networks – how can home builders be better prepared to explain the options and benefits to prospective buyers? This interactive workshop is designed to help sales and marketing professionals from home builders feel confident in communicating the features and benefits of different heating systems. We’ll also be looking at contracts and customer protection.
